Waterloo is one of the most written about battles in European history. Yet from Abba’s claim that ‘At Waterloo Napoleon did surrender’, to that often-repeated, yet mis-attributed comment ‘they’ve ruined my battlefield’, much of what people think they know about Waterloo is in fact wrong.

Utilising cutting-edge filming techniques, military historian and battlefield guide Dr Zack White will show you the battlefield from all the angles, including one that you’ve never seen before: from the air! Using previously unseen drone footage, alongside footage shot ‘off the beaten track’ on the ground, we’ll explore the realities of what happened, and what was never physically possible, on 18 June 1815 to understand the course of the battle, and what those soldiers saw and experienced, exploding a few myths along the way.

Dr Zack White is an award-winning Napoleonic historian and Leverhulme ECR Fellow at the University of Portsmouth. He hosts the Napoleonic Wars podcast and chairs the Napoleonic & Revolutionary War Graves Charity.
